Blogging was once just another hobby that some people pursued in addition to their full-time jobs. Today, blogging still works in this manner, but a lot has changed.
Blogging will become a profitable online profession in 2021, and many people will start a blog to get into this noble profession.
Before we get into the various ways to make money from blogging, let’s take a look at the possibilities:
What kind of money can you make from blogging?
Like any other profession (doctor, lawyer, financial adviser), there are different levels of blogging, with people earning anywhere from $1,000 to $2 million per year.
The graph above depicts ShoutMeLoud’s income. I began earning $434 per month in 2009, and now this blog earns more than $30,000 per month.
How much money you can make is solely determined by a few factors, such as:
- Which niche did you select?
- How much time do you spend learning and practicing new skills?
- How many visitors do you send to your blog?
- What digital marketing strategies do you use?
Other factors, such as consistency, your network, personal motivation, and goals, all play an important role.
However, the niche and your digital marketing skills can help you move quickly in the blogging field.
You can learn more about mindset and motivation by reading other articles on ShoutMeLoud, but this guide will only cover how to make money from your blog.
To make things easier for you, I’ve included answers to many frequently asked blogging questions at the end of this guide.
What are the different ways bloggers make money (income streams)?
You can monetize your blog using a variety of methods. You can choose the method that best suits your style based on your level of blogging and the type of blog. Please read all the way to the end of this article to find out the answers to many important questions posed by bloggers like you.
Ad Networks such as AdSense and Media.net
- Direct Advertising
- Marketing through affiliates
- Advertisement in Native Languages
- Paid endorsements/sponsored posts
- Sell digital goods (eBooks, Blueprints)
- Launch an Online Course Promotion-Online consultation
- Provide services in accordance with your abilities.
Aside from traditional forms of advertising, you can experiment with other monetization methods. Rather than simply adding ads, focus on providing value to your advertisers.
Here’s a comprehensive webinar on how to make money blogging in 2021. This masterclass will teach you about the different stages of blog monetization:
It is preferable to have one high-paying advertisement rather than four low-paying advertisements.
1. Advertisement networks: (Beginners)
Ad networks are the most basic and widely used method for monetizing a blog.
The two most widely used ad networks are:
To be approved by these ad networks, you must have a blog. They display ads based on the context of your article as well as user interest. Because they provide recurring income, these methods are used to monetize the majority of new blogs. Because the ads displayed are of high quality, they have no negative impact on the user’s experience.
If your blog receives fewer than 300 views per day, you can use one of the other ad networks listed here. Your goal, however, should be to get AdSense or Media.net approval as soon as possible.
To give you a clear picture of my earnings, I’ve included a screenshot from my AdSense account below:
If you are not making enough money from contextual advertisements, you should consider switching to direct or affiliate advertisements.
2. Affiliate Marketing: Intermediate + Advanced (most profitable method)
Affiliate advertising is one of the best ways to make money because a single sale is worth far more than a single click on a contextual ad.
Most bloggers use it these days, and it is one of the most profitable ways to make money from a blog.
If you’re new to affiliate marketing, read my beginner’s guide to what it is or enroll in the ShoutUniversity affiliate marketing course.
The screenshot below depicts affiliate income from one of the programs over the course of one month:
I’ve already written extensively about affiliate marketing:
Of course, there’s ShoutMeLoud’s affiliate marketing eBook.
Here are some popular affiliate marketing marketplaces where you could participate:
ShareASale PartnerStack ImpactRadius Awin Commission Junction Amazon Affiliate Program
Another advantage of affiliate marketing is that you can use it on any blogging platform, including Wix, Squarespace, Medium, and even LinkedIn.
All you have to do is share your unique affiliate link for the product you’re recommending, and when someone buys it, you’ll earn a large commission on the sale price.
Affiliate marketing is how many bloggers earn millions of dollars from their blogs each year.
If you’re wondering how much money you can make from affiliate marketing, here’s my first 5-year earnings report:
3. Create and sell your own eBooks: (Intermediate)
As you may have noticed, top bloggers’ business models revolve around selling their own products, such as an eBook.
All you have to do is choose a topic, write an eBook about it, and sell it on your blog or on Amazon.
Once you’re comfortable with the process, you can make a good living by selling eBooks online.
Furthermore, having your own product to sell is the best way to generate passive income.
To make money, you can compile your articles into a well-structured book and sell it on your blog or on other platforms such as Kdp.Amazon.com. This will also give you the credibility you need to become a published author.
I’ve written three of these books and have sold them on various platforms. To sell books on ShoutMeLoud, I use the EDD WordPress plugin, and you can see an example listing here.
“Affiliate Marketing Book,” one of my most popular books, is also available on Amazon, which contributes to my recurring income.
You can hire someone to design a book cover through a freelancing site like Fiverr.
You can also use WooCommerce to sell physical products on your blog.
Here are three resources you can use to learn more about launching your book:
four. indigenous advertising
Native advertising has been at the forefront of earning a living from blogging. Native advertising can be very profitable for news and job-related blogs in particular.
There are a few native advertising solutions that are worthwhile to invest time and effort in implementing.
5. Begin offering an online course (Membership site): Advanced
Can you make a video out of your textbook?
Could you please include the checklist in the downloadable templates?
Can you make a one-to-two-hour video course?
If you answered yes, then this method is unquestionably for you. Because of technological advancements, anyone can launch an online course, and if you have a one-of-a-kind course, your chances of reaching $1 million goals are extremely high.
Here’s a screenshot of ShoutUniversity, where you can learn about WordPress, affiliate marketing, and AdSense by simply watching videos, to help you sell your online course.
You can use platforms such as:
To develop and market your online course.
6. Direct Advertising (Intermediate)
There is no doubt that AdSense is the best ad program for bloggers, but it does have some limitations. The most significant limitation is the amount you are paid per click.
If you are successful in obtaining direct advertisements, replace those AdSense units with direct advertisements instead.
To get started with direct advertising, try different networks and create a page on your blog called “Media-kit or Advertise with us” to receive new deals. The following is an example of a ShoutMeLoud advertisement page.
To manage the ads, you can also use a plugin such as WPAdvancedAds.
The best way to do this is to use Google apps to create a professional email address like [email protected].
(Optional) Then, to set up the process, use HubSpot’s free CRM. The workflow outlined below is what I use at ShoutMeLoud to handle such inquiries.
You can set this up on Hubspot’s free CRM, and it will greatly improve your workflow.

Paid reviews are an excellent way to supplement your monthly income. A small review post can quickly earn you $10 or more. Every review I write on ShoutMeLoud earns me at least $1200.
When doing paid reviews, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Here are some websites where you can find paid reviews and sponsored content opportunities:
7. Manage brand campaigns: (Intermediate and advanced)
This one is ideal for any type of blog with a well-established audience. You could assist brands in reaching their target audience by running a campaign on their behalf. You will be doing a brand collaboration, webinars, paid advertising, and video production for this.
There will be an increase in the number of blogs doing this with various brands. Keep an eye on this type because it is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to monetize a blog.
8. Provided services
You can provide a variety of services depending on your skills. You can offer content writing, logo creation, SEO, and other services based on your skills.
In the past, I provided WordPress, SEO, and hosting services. Offering services allows you to earn money while also providing you with more use cases to help you hone your skills. I recall earning more than $2000 per month solely by providing services.
In fact, starting your own services is relatively simple. All you have to do is set up a page on your blog and list the services you provide. For maximum visibility, place the link to that page in your blog’s navbar and in a prominent location.
Make it as simple as possible for your audience to contact you and learn more about your services. As you work with your first 2-3 clients, you will come up with numerous ways to improve the sales process for your services. In fact, you will be able to automate some processes, such as payment and follow-up.
Is it possible to blog about your life and make money from it?
Another popular type of blogging in which many people discuss their daily lives and create a community around it.
You may have seen many of them on YouTube as video bloggers, and you can do the same on your blog or on YouTube.
These are some of the most popular topics for this type of blogging:
The key here is to keep it entertaining while also adding value and building a community around your brand. This strategy has the potential to make you a lot of money depending on your style and consistency.
Many newcomers also ask if I should focus on blogging or vlogging.
It’s a good idea to have a mix of the two. Producing video content (recording, editing, and publishing) takes more time and money than creating text content. A good combination of both techniques will allow you to grow faster and earn more money sooner.
We bloggers are no longer solely reliant on AdSense to make a living from our blogs. We now have a plethora of ad networks and monetization methods at our disposal, allowing us to significantly increase the income potential of a blog.
If you’ve been making money from your blog in the traditional way, it’s time to revise your blogging business plan. Make some changes, change the design, and optimize your blog’s marketing aspects.
How to Make Money Blogging Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to make money blogging?
I’m living proof that blogging can provide a good living.
Much is dependent on your consistency and persistence. In my case, I worked nearly 14 hours per day for four years to get to the point where I earn more than $40K per month from blogging.
With the maturation of the online space, there are now more opportunities to make money through blogging. The only catch is that you must be consistent for nearly a year before you can quit your job or base your life on blogging income.
What should I blog about if I want to make money?
If you don’t want to blog about your life and are wondering what the best topic is for blog monetization, here are four factors to consider.
Things that you are already passionate about or are interested in. This thing does not have to be something you are learning at an academy or at your job; it could be something as simple as something your friends, family, and others call you about to get your opinion. Automobiles, food, finance, and travel are all examples. Take a pen and a piece of paper and label it “Passion list.” Now, make a list of every topic that you believe you might be interested in blogging about.
Traffic and trends: By creating your passion list, you can ensure that there is sufficient traffic and interest in the topic that you have discovered. Trends will tell you whether this topic is growing or dying. Trends.google.com is a free tool that can be used to determine traffic trends on any topic.
Monetization: A monetization option is the third factor that will assist you in discovering profitable blogging ideas.
You must consider how you intend to monetize your blog. Is it going to be an ad network like AdSense or will it be affiliate marketing? To give you an example, “Whatsapp” as a topic is rapidly expanding, and while you may be passionate about it, monetization is abysmal. Even with high traffic, earning money is insignificant.
The last but not least factor is competition. It will be difficult to stand out and outrank existing big players if you enter a competitive niche. I don’t want to discourage you, but if you have a choice between two or three topics, choose the one with medium or low competition. If you end up choosing a broader niche, such as fashion, in a competitive niche, it will only take a few extra months to master it. So, when looking at the competition, keep this in mind.
I recommend that you read more ShoutMeLoud articles to gain a better understanding of how to choose a niche.
How will you be paid for your blog?
Your advertisers could be in a different part of the world, and there are five popular methods for receiving payment from all over the world. These are also common payment methods for these businesses.
- Transfer of funds via wire (your bank)
- CoinBase is a cryptocurrency database (Crypto payment)
Once you start making money, it’s a good idea to have an account on all of the websites listed above that allows you to receive payments. All of them are free to join and simple to use. In the future, you can use the aforementioned services to pay freelancers or virtual assistants.
There are numerous ways to make money from blogging, but I recommend not getting overwhelmed and instead implementing them one at a time.
All of the ideas above work well, and you should figure out which ones work best for your specific blogging niche.
